A growing number of competition authorities assess the impact of their interventions and report details of their activity. Impact assessments aim to provide clear and measurable estimates of the value of competition authorities’ activities. These estimates can be an important tool for advocating the benefits of competition and justifying the work of authorities.
In June 2025, ten years after publishing the OECD Guide for helping competition authorities assess the expected impact of their activities, the OECD will explore the topic again through a roundtable that aims to explore current approaches to impact assessment, difficulties in implementation, as well as deterrence effects, advocacy efforts, and market investigations.
