The restricted meeting of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) will be held on the 15th and 16th of April in a hybrid format at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris, France, and via Zoom. Network members will review the food and nutrition situation in the region, based on an analysis of the final results of the 2024–2025 agropastoral season and the functioning of agricultural markets at both regional and international levels.
The unprecedented food and nutrition crisis that has affected the region for over five years continues to be severely exacerbated by security-related violence and the consequences of sociopolitical unrest. Participants will therefore engage in an in-depth discussion on the impact of these interconnected crises on regional food trade and the overall food and nutrition situation.
The meeting will also include a review of the 2024 food crisis response, drawing lessons learned, and outlining plans for the 2025 response efforts.
Participants will further examine key areas and processes of the RPCA reform, including innovations and necessary adaptation measures to address food-related challenges arising from geopolitical dynamics, trends in official development assistance, and the capacity of States in the region.
On the sidelines of the restricted meeting, other key consultations will take place, including the RPCA Steering Committee (COR/RPCA) meeting and the meeting of the ECOWAS Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP) Partners Group.
Held under the patronage of the Commissions of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), the RPCA annual meeting brings together the region’s key food and nutrition security stakeholders. The meeting is organised by the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) and the Sahel and West Africa Club Secretariat (OECD/SWAC).
