Critical data gaps hinder effective monitoring and implementation of SDGs. Accurate, timely, and granular data is crucial for tracking progress, yet OECD countries face significant data challenges. Coverage of targets ranges from 75% to 85%, with distances to targets measurable for only 114 of 169 targets, on average.
Data availability is uneven across Goals. The assessment of Gender Equality (SDG 5), Climate Action (SDG 13), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Life Below Water (SDG 14), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) suffers from limited data with less than one-third of targets that can be measured. In contrast, Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4) and Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7) have near-complete coverage. Inperfect timeliness or limited granularity of the data also stand in the way of a more robust assessment of the progress made by countries toward their commitments under the 2030 Agenda.
