The Test Guideline 239 is mentioned in the EU data requirements for biocides and plant protection products. This ecotoxicological test using water-sediment exposures is important since the macrophyte Myriophyllum spicatum is considered one of the standard surrogates for submerged rooted dicotyledonous species. The current test guideline should ideally be aligned with the revised TGs 218/219 and, where possible, consider the findings of the Germany-UBA project ‘Review of the OECD Test Guidelines relevant to environmental assessment with regard to the state of the art in science and technology’.
