Abstract
Even in the world’s most advanced social protection systems, there are gaps in the quality, efficiency and responsiveness of social programmes. The OECD’s Risks that Matter Survey shows that on average only 31% of people across 27 OECD countries think that they could easily access program benefits if they needed them, with 42% saying that they do not think they could easily access benefits if they needed them. AI could help to ensure that support reaches the people that need it, and faster. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamburg's Ministry of Finance deployed AI to process claims for social benefits, reportedly saving 3,000 working days of manual effort, and freeing up workers to spend time where they were needed most.
Join us as Ryan Van Leent, Vice President of Public Services at SAP, Australia, presents a case study on the use of machine learning and generative AI in Hamburg to process social benefits claims during and after the pandemic. Ryan will present on and demonstrate the AI solution deployed in Hamburg, followed by a Q&A with the audience. The event will be moderated by Monika Queisser, Head of the OECD’s Social Policy Division.
