10:00 – 11:00 TRT        Opening Dialogue: Rethinking transversal challenges in a fragmented multilateral system: what next for strengthening international co-operation?

The continuing threat of pandemics, the intensifying impacts of climate change and climate change-related disasters, geopolitical conflicts and consequent supply chain distortions are casting a shadow over global economic prospects and putting a severe burden on livelihoods.  In the  face of these shared challenges, multilateralism is under pressure as countries may resort to unilateral action, and international economic relationships are increasing conflictual. These trends affect all countries, but they are particularly salient for emerging market and developing economies (EMDEs), which are grappling with deeply rooted structural imbalances, less favourable external financial conditions, and vulnerability to external shocks. Strengthening multilateral co-operation in response to these challenges is key to ensuring an inclusive and sustainable world order.
