Abstract
While work accidents have declined in many countries, still far too many people are injured and lose their lives at work. Workplace inspectors in Germany’s construction industry conduct site visits to assure occupational safety, but they are stretched thin: inspectors have oversight of 600 000 companies, and are able to reach only 1% of them through visits every year. How can they prioritise the right companies, and how can they reduce the time taken on inspection processes so that workers can spend their time where they are needed most?
