The OECD carries out a stocktake of available subnational Purchasing Power Parity rates (PPPs), Consumer Price Indices (CPIs), and related price indices across OECD member countries. Furthermore, the OECD develops and tests an appropriate methodology to estimate subnational CPIs and PPPs in areas where these statistics are unavailable.
Using subnational CPIs and PPPs improves the understanding of subnational economic indicators and their change over time, which has consequences for analysis and policy related to raising living standards in different types of regions, rural and urban disparities, and SME policies.
