OECD Istanbul Centre

The Centre promotes the standards that underscore the OECD Recommendations on Gender Equality in Education, Employment, and Entrepreneurship and on Gender Equality in Public Life, providing comprehensive frameworks for the design and implementation of policies that foster gender equality, greater inclusiveness, and stronger growth. It supports the implementation of the OECD Gender Strategy and related actions built around four main pillars: data, mainstreaming, staying at the policy frontier, and outreach.

The Centre is partnering with the UNDP in Europe and Central Asia, Istanbul Regional Hub to promote gender equality and inclusive climate action.

Events:

Today, countries face unprecedented external shocks from geo-strategic conflicts, climate disasters, and contagious diseases. In this context, ensuring connectivity through well-established hard and soft infrastructure has become key to inclusive and sustainable economic development, facilitating integration into regional and global supply chains. 

The Centre, in co-operation with OECD regional programmes, conducts policy analysis on transport and trade connectivity, providing reform priorities and action plans for governments and the private sector to enhance connectivity across regions. It also plays a key role in disseminating OECD instruments and best practices related to infrastructure.

Events:

The Centre promotes private sector development and enterprise skills by disseminating OECD standards and fostering the exchange of best practices and experiences between the OECD and partner countries. Related activities include: 

• Co-operation with OECD regional programmes to conduct data-based studies and research on SMEs;
• Cross-directorate co-operation across the OECD to promote policy dialogues with partner countries on enhancing skills for the green and digital economy;
• Collaboration with UNDP and ILO to identify and disseminate effective policy measures for the formalisation of informal businesses and employment.

The Centre promotes convergence with OECD and international statistical standards, facilitating their integration into OECD statistical work. It also strengthens regional efforts to enhance countries' capacity for data collection, analysis, and dissemination.  

Events:

The OECD is the leading international standard-setter on responsible business conduct. It works with governments, businesses, and stakeholders to promote its global implementation by strengthening public policies, advancing corporate due diligence, and improving access to remedy.

By supporting OECD standards and instruments, the Centre fosters a whole-of-government approach to responsible business conduct and leveraging the potential of critical minerals for sustainable growth and development among OECD Members and beyond. For example, it jointly implements the 'Responsible Business Conduct for sustainable development: Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye' regional programme together with the OECD Centre for Responsible Business Conduct.
